Telegram has released a new type of #gift on its test server — limited edition gifts that can only be purchased by Telegram #Premium users. According to sources, each user can currently buy up to 5 gifts, though this limit may change in the future.

📰 Now, in order to enable the function of displaying sensitive posts, you need to verify your identity by scanning your face to confirm that you are 18 years or older. Previously, this required activating the corresponding setting in the security settings, but in the Desktop or Web version.

😦 The innovation is related to a law from the UK, which will come into force soon. It obliges sites and applications to check users who want to access porn content.

🇺🇸 TON Wallet Now Available to U.S. Users

Telegram has officially made its built-in #TON Wallet available to users in the United States. The rollout follows previous restrictions that excluded U.S. users during the initial global launch.
The TON #Wallet is a self-custodial crypto wallet integrated directly into Telegram, allowing users to send and receive Toncoin, USDT, and other assets with no transaction fees. It also offers access to DeFi tools, staking, and tokenized assets—all within the Telegram interface.
Users in the U.S. can activate the wallet by navigating to Settings → Wallet in the Telegram app or by messaging @wallet.
This marks a major step in expanding Telegram’s #Web3 ecosystem to a broader audience.

📰 Important Update Regarding Telegram Gifts

Lately, there have been frequent abuses of a bug involving gifts being sold inside Telegram for 125 stars. 👛

Here’s how the scam works:

• When you try to buy a gift, a pop-up appears saying the price has changed or you’re redirected when opening the gift info.

• Attackers use the "Name" field of their profile to lure users to private channels, where they offer the same gift for 125 stars.

• These channels provide instructions that require you to connect business bots to complete the purchase.

⚠️ This is a scam exploiting a known bug that has existed since this feature was introduced.

🚫 NEVER connect unknown business bots to your account.
Some Telegram clients automatically grant permissions to bots when connected. This allows attackers to remotely control your gifts and even transfer them out of your account.

🔒 Stay safe:

• Don’t trust gift offers from unofficial or private channels.

• Never connect your account to bots you don’t fully trust.

• Report any suspicious posts or scammers immediately.

📰 TDesktop 5.16.4 has an annoying bug, 💻 the gist of it is that if you open a profile or chat with someone, they end up in 📖your stories bar — above the chat list. Even if that person is not your contact. This is reported in this issue on GitHub.

Restarting the client removes strangers from your stories bar, but the bug will continue to work.

😠 Spammers use this bug for their own gain — dubious relayers in promoting their miniapps, and commentators in their channels. Be careful.

📰 Fraud scheme through a bot. 👿 There have been increasing cases where attackers manage to delete victims' accounts by transferring ownership of bots.

Described scheme process:
1. Attackers create seemingly innocent bots.
2. A random victim starts this bot.
3. This step is enough for the attacker to transfer the ownership rights of this bot to the victim.
4. Through the API, setMyName, the attacker changes the bot's name to imitate Telegram support or a @wallet wallet.
5. The attacker mass-reports the bot, after which the bot is automatically deleted, and your account may be deleted for «fraud».

💡 Recommendations:
• Do not start unknown bots, even if you are persuaded or asked, or found them in search.
• Start @BotFather; it notifies you of new bots received in your hands.
• If such a bot is transferred to you, IMMEDIATELY delete it using the /deletebot command, select the specific bot, and confirm the action.
• If you see nothing wrong, you can simply reset the token (/revoke) and change the bot's name (/editbot).

📰 Thousands of Non-Consensual Intimate Photos Shared on Telegram in China 🔞

A major scandal has emerged in China after reports revealed that thousands of men shared private and intimate photos of women without their consent on Telegram.
One of the biggest groups involved, known as “Mask Park,” had over 100,000 members before it was taken down. Despite this, similar smaller channels are still active, and the number of such groups could continue to grow.

📢 A Telegram spokesperson told AFP :

“Sharing pornography without the consent of those involved is strictly against Telegram’s rules. Such content is removed when found. Telegram moderators monitor public channels and delete millions of harmful posts every day, including non-consensual material.”

The issue has led to public anger, protests, and wide discussions on local social media platforms about online safety and privacy.

📰 Telegram is testing "star levels" designed to see "reliability" of users. 👛 The levels are verified by spending stars on your account, and, accordingly, the more stars you spend, the higher the levels, and thus show your reliability. ⭐️ The "Learn more" button redirects to a blog with an innovation about stars.
🤷‍♀️ It is unknown whether early spent stars will affect the rating or not.

Users have questions and disputes about this innovation, and recall a similar function in VKontakte (ru), which Durov had previously founded.
