Eastern North American Lake and Sea Cryptids
https://ift.tt/2z64sFC
I've decided to compile a list of various sea/lake cryptids throughout eastern North America, and figured I may as well share it with the sub. My entries are going to be fairly brief, but there is a link on each of these that will bring you to a page with (hopefully) more information. Also, just as a side-note, I have left a small portion of lake cryptids out, as some seem to be more mythological then cryptozoological. I plan on doing this in the future for sea/lake cryptids in central and weste...

Repost-in-Spirit: Hunting down sources - what was the reasoning behind the involvement (if any) of the Italians & Czechs in the Chaco War?
https://ift.tt/31mpSvQ
/u/charlesthe50th appears to have posted a [question](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/ca6a62/why_did_italian_advisers_and_white_russian/) which has recently occurred to me - what is the extent of these two nation's involvement in the war, and why on earth did they do so? [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaco_War) claims the nations as co-belligerents in the war, but the listed sources for Italian involvement (across several websites [\[1\]](https://enacademic.com/dic.n...

Can I (17 F) have my gut surgically removed and still live?
https://ift.tt/3a039tf
I know it probably sounds daft but the documentary had some terrifying cases of this, including a woman who survived it, it was a woman in her 30's and she said she suddenly felt hot in her throat, and then flames started spewing from her mouth. She drank water and the fire was put out, but she sustained 3rd degree burns to her stomach and intestines and had a scar on her abdomen because of the heat of the fire coming from her gut. The others weren't so lucky and were found reduced to a pile of...

In early April 1989, two young Swedish tourists who had been backpacking their way around New Zealand walked into the bush on the Coromandel Peninsula and never walked out.

**HEIDI AND URBAN** Their names were Heidi Paakkonen (21) and Uban Hoglin (23). They had left Stockholm in September 1988 with plans to travel to Australia and then New Zealand. They intended to return to Sweden in May 1989. After a stint in Australia, they arrived in Auckland on the 5th of December 1988. Urban was a keen outdoorsman, with interests in tramping (hiking) and fishing. He and Heidi purchased a 1976 Subaru wagon with bull bars on the front, and made their way south, interspersing ...

Can someone help me understand the Dewar form for Benzene? I’m very confused
https://ift.tt/2DVLV4E
I’m confused about the Dewar form for Benzene. Our professor asked if Carbon attached to the long bond is sp2 or sp3 hybridized. He said it can’t be sp3 because then it wouldn’t be resonance. So why is it sp2 if there are 4 bonds? I’m really confused someone help. He said that it’s a pi bond, but how can u have a pi bond without a sigma bond? Furthermore, where do those electrons actually come from because you can’t take electrons from a sigma bond? https://enacademic.com/pictures/enwiki/68/Dew...

The 1980 Australian Disappearance of Louise Faulkner and Her Two-Year Old Daughter, Charmian: The Biological Father of the Child is Considered the Prime Suspect
https://ift.tt/2YE7vlk
In 1980, 43-year old Louise Faulkner lived in a flat in St. Kilda with her two-year old daughter, Charmian. Years earlier, Louise had been married with three other children, but her husband filed for divorce after discovering that she was having an affair with a married man named George Sutherland, who was 16 years her senior. Louise’s ex-husband retained primary custody of the children, but Louise eventually became pregnant with Charmian and claimed that George was the father. Even though Georg...

Metanoia
https://ift.tt/2FlMtBM
Instead of going into a lengthy description, I thought I would try something else and post a series of short excerpts to elucidate the concept of Metanoia. "Metanoia, a transliteration of the Greek μετάνοια, means after-thought or beyond-thought, with meta meaning "after" or "beyond" (as in the modern word "metaphysics") and nous meaning "mind" (as in the modern world "paranoia"). It's commonly understood as "a transformative change of heart; especially: a spiritual conversion." "When personif...
